COVID-19 vaccines help your immune system fight the illness if you are exposed. There are now multiple COVID-19 vaccines that have been approved in the United States. Clinical trials have shown that these vaccines are very safe and very effective. Learn more about the vaccine here.
Getting a COVID-19 vaccine as a child care worker is an important step you can take to protect yourself and others. Protection from COVID-19 is critically important because for some people, it can cause severe illness or death.
The COVID-19 vaccine safely teaches your body how to defend against the virus.
In scientific studies, 95% of people who got the vaccine were protected from illness from COVID-19.
In California and Los Angeles County, people who work in child care and early education are a priority to be vaccinated. This means that child care providers and employees will be able to be vaccinated before the general public.
Keeping child care programs safe and open is an important part of recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic. You are a child care hero! The vaccine will be able to help you keep yourself, your family, and the people in your program safe.
The supply of COVID-19 vaccines is currently limited. They are being distributed in phases. The vaccine will be available to child care workers soon. Please check back often for updates. We will share information on how to get the vaccine as soon as it’s available.
Vaccines are currently being distributed to Phase 1A, most healthcare workers. Vaccines are also being distributed to people over 65 years old. If you are over 65, you are eligible for a vaccine now.
A special COVID-19 vaccination program for ECE professionals who are 65 or older in LA County is now available. Child care providers and other ECE professionals who are 65+ can make vaccine appointments through this program.
All other child care providers and ECE professionals will be eligible for a COVID-19 vaccine as part of Phase 1B. It is estimated that Phase 1B vaccination will begin on March 1, 2021.

Even though vaccines aren’t available to all early educators yet, you can start to make a plan now. Here are some things to know:
You will be able to get a vaccine at LA County vaccination sites, or at your healthcare provider or pharmacy. You will be able to get a vaccine at the location of your choice.
Many vaccine locations are open typical business hours, for example, 7:00 am – 7:00 pm. Many are open on the weekend, but slots may be limited.
You will need to show proof of identity and verification that you work as an early educator or child care provider. More information on this will be shared as soon as possible. We will help you make sure you have the verification you need.
There are many people trying to get vaccines. When early educators are allowed to get vaccinated, it may still be hard to get an appointment right away. If you have trouble getting an appointment, please be patient and keep trying.
